Canadian WinTech Resource Series Community Spotlight: Winnipeg and Regina

We help navigate the tech ecosystem in Canada by curating resources to help and support women in tech. This installation focuses on Winnipeg, Manitoba and Regina, Saskatchewan.

 Winnipeg

Known as the “cultural cradle of Canada,” Winnipeg boasts a full schedule of artistic and cultural events, from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet to James Bond tours (yes, the idea of Bond came from Winnipeg!). Also known as the “gateway to the west,” this city is a transportation hub with a very diverse economy - including one of the fastest growing technology markets in the country. One of the city’s key goals for this growth? Increase women in tech.   

 

Tech Resources and Support in Winnipeg:

Ladies Learning Code Winnipeg: This non-profit organization strives to be the top resource for women who are passionate about tech. Members have the opportunity to increase their technical skills through hands-on, collaborative work.

 

North Forge Tech Exchange: This development agency works to fuel Manitoba’s innovation economy by providing mentors, subject matter experts and a start-up program.

 

Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce: The Chamber’s goal is to provide programs, support and resources for small businesses. The many benefits of membership include lobbying and advocacy, plus leads, referrals and networking opportunities.

 

Information and Communication Technologies Association of Manitoba: This industry-focused association represents Manitoba's information and communication technology (ICT) sector. Their goal is to lead the rise of this sector through collaboration, education and networking.

 

Regina

Capital of Saskatchewan, Regina is a prairie city known for its generous and friendly people. Historical charm within the city limits and a stunning valley studded with sparkling lakes outside, Regina has a lot to offer. Although crops and mining might be the industries that come to mind, the technology sector is on the rise. Now’s the time to consider tech! Here are some resources to get you started.

 

Tech Resources and Support in Regina:


Regina Women’s Network: RWN provides a supportive environment for growth and a place to share ideas and expertise. They hope to foster a better sense of professionalism and community, enabling women to pursue their highest aspirations.


Regina Chamber: The Regina Chamber of Commerce aims to be the “voice of business” in the Regina Community. The Chamber provides its members with professional caliber information and resources. It embraces innovative, strategic reasoning while embodying global market principles.


Business and Professional Women Regina: A member of the Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Women's Organizations and the International Federation of Business and Professional Women, this group strives to support all local women in the realization of their plans, projects and activities.


Women Entrepreneurs Saskatchewan (WESK): This non-profit, membership-based organization provides advisory and support services to help business development and management. WESK offers a dynamic approach through training, engagement and resources.
